How to train to climb Mount Shasta
A summit climb or ski of Mount Shasta is a serious physical challenge and should not be underestimated! Diligent training prior to your climb is essential for safety, enjoyment, and success. Not being prepared can affect the whole team, and put yourself and others at risk. Please do your best to effectively prepare your body prior to your trip.
Your training should cover all areas; cardio, strength training, endurance, balance, and the technical skills necessary for the objectives. Training for the activity should be strenuous 4-5 days per week and as much hiking as possible.
We are very happy to discuss training for mountaineering, this is a very critical piece of a successful summit climb and descent.
Here are a few resources and training coaches we recommend.
Why Train Before Your Climb?
“Without a doubt, the best indicator of success in the mountains is to be as physically prepared as possible. For many climbers, it’s difficult to quantify the efforts of mountaineering and to develop a training program to meet the demands of a big Cascade peak like Mt. Shasta. With Dane’s (CasavalPT) experience guiding and his deep knowledge base, he is a tremendous resource for those seeking to expand their capabilities. A regimented training program will not only increase your chance of achieving your goals, but you’ll have a much more enjoyable time while doing it.”
