Basic Mountaineering Day Class

Mt Shasta, California - 1 Day

Overview

Basic mountaineering is a one-day snow school class that provides an introduction to climbing and efficient movement on moderate-angle snow and to the use of ice axe, crampons, and self-arrest skills. This knowledge is a prerequisite to the beginning mountaineer and essential for new climbers to attempt a Mt. Shasta summit climb. This is also a primer for climbing Mt. Shasta and we will answer specific route and itinerary questions as well as discuss weather, altitude, and terrain considerations.

Mountaineering instruction includes:

  • Ice axe and crampon use

  • Ice axe self-arrest

  • Snow climbing technique

  • Basic rope travel

We aim to create personal connections with Mt. Shasta and the surrounding land, and lasting connections to your new climbing community.
