As a volcanic peak in the southern Cascade Range, Mt. Shasta is an ideal location to learn and develop the key skills to be a proficient mountaineer and alpine climber. Our 4 and 5 day Seminars build a solid foundation of mountain skills while making a summit climb on one of California’s largest glaciers. Our guides are highly skilled climbers and teachers and are eager to share their experience with you.
Basic Mountaineering
Basic mountaineering is a one day snow school class that gives an introduction to climbing on moderate angle snow and to the use of ice axe, crampons, and self arrest skills. This knowledge is requisite to the beginning mountaineer and essential for new climbers to attempt the Mt. Shasta summit climb. This is also a primer for climbing Mt. Shasta and we will answer specific route and itinerary questions. This is not necessary if you are climbing with us as part of a guided expedition, we will conduct the class as included in the climb schedule.
