The New Year brings the official start to the '09 Shasta climbing season.  We have been on the mountain regularly checking the snow conditions and enjoying some excellent backcountry skiing.  Winter ascents are extremely difficult, but we do get breaks of high pressure and the mountain is spectacular under full white conditions!  The last few days have been spent on the lower flanks of Casaval Ridge, one of Shasta's most alpine routes.  For a grand adventure, come explore Shasta in the winter on skis, snowboard, or snowshoes, it is breathtaking.  Happy New Year!
